Don’t miss out: Time-Sensitive Opportunity

How to Play All of Me on Violin (Without Guessing Through the Chords)

If you’ve ever tried improvising over All of Me on violin, you’ve probably experienced this…

The tune feels easy.

It’s usually taught early.

Most people think,

“It’s in C major.”

So they play C major.

Sometimes it sounds okay.

Then suddenly…

…it doesn’t.

That’s because All of Me isn’t simply a tune in C major.

The harmony changes direction several times, and if your note choices don’t move with those changes, your solo begins to sound disconnected from the song.

This is one of the biggest reasons musicians struggle to improvise—not because they don’t know enough scales, but because they haven’t learned to hear and respond to changing harmony.

Stop Guessing. Start Hearing the Changes.

One of the most important musical skills you can develop is learning to recognize when the harmony changes—and how to respond naturally.

Once you understand that process, you’re no longer memorizing licks.

You’re making music.

Better yet…

The concepts you learn on All of Me transfer directly to dozens of jazz standards and popular songs.

That’s why I love teaching this tune.

It’s approachable enough for intermediate players, but deep enough to teach harmonic concepts you’ll use for the rest of your musical life.

Why “All of Me” Is Such a Great Teaching Tune

Unlike many standards, All of Me gives us time to hear what’s happening.

The harmony moves at a comfortable pace.

The chord progression contains several important harmonic ideas that appear again and again throughout jazz and popular music.

While working through the tune we’ll explore:

  • Understanding the chord progression
  • Playing chord tones with confidence
  • Voice leading between chords
  • Choosing scales that match the harmony
  • Recognizing modulations
  • Practicing the difficult spots efficiently
  • Moving from exercises into real improvisation

These aren’t just “All of Me” skills.

They’re improvisation skills.
