10th Annual Creative Strings Workshop and Festival
Overview
Join legendary jazz violinist, Christian Howes, as he hosts the 10th Annual Creative Strings Workshop at Otterbein University, Columbus, Ohio, July 1-6, 2013.
Learn from and perform alongside world class teaching artists Billy Contreras, Jason Anick, Hamilton Hardin, Cedric Easton, Alex Hargreaves and Greg Byers. This amazing learning opportunity will be an unforgettable and inspiring week of improvisational music filled with rehearsals, masterclasses and concerts in jazz, fiddle styles, blues, rock and more.

Who is this for?
- Adult and Youth string players (violin, viola, cello, bass, mandolin)
- Intermediate to Advanced playing level on your instrument
- ALL levels of experience with improvisation
What makes this camp different? 
The Creative Strings Workshop (CSW) is the ONLY summer string workshop that combines a learning camp with a festival. The intimate classroom experience allows you to actively participate in classes and interact with faculty, while the festival gives you to chance to perform live in front of real audiences alongside world class artists.
Daily Schedule
9:30 – 10:30a.m. Breakfast
10:30 – 11:30a.m. Clinic #1 (students choose Intermediate or Advanced class)
11:30 – 12:30 p.m. Clinic #2
12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Lunch
2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Ensemble practice
3:45 – 4:45 p.m. Clinic #3
5:30 – 6:30 p.m. Dinner
6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Ensemble practice
10:00p.m. – 2:00 a.m. Late night jam at Dick’s Den
* All participants will have various performance opportunities at cafes, clubs and other venues throughout the week
Travel, Food and Lodging
The Creative Strings Workshop will be held at Otterbein University, Columbus, Ohio July 1-6, 2013. The nearest airport is the Port Columbus International Airport (CMH). Ground transfers to and from the airport can be arranged directly through the workshop for a cost of $5 per direction.
Otterbein University is located at 1 S Grove St, Westerville, OH 43081. We have reserved rooms for participants who can choose between private or shared rooms. We have also arranged a group meal plan, and can accommodate most dietary restrictions.

A $200 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your spot at this year’s CSW. You may pay off the remaining balance at any time leading up to the beginning of the Workshop. You may also purchase your tuition (and any room and board) in full. You can do both options in the first square below.
